sunny sundays are meant for cheating

sunday was an absolutely gorgeous sunny day, filled with leisurely activities, fun places to visit and full of delicious things to guiltlessly devour. i made a pact long ago, if it's a beautiful day, you can eat anything you want. anything.

no wonder i love the sun :)

our first stop of the day began at the annual cherry blossom festival, located in the heart of japantown and one of sf's most family friendly outdoor gatherings happening in the beginning of summer. the idea of spending our beautiful sunday outdoors amidst thousands of others basking in the sun seemed like a beautiful idea until we were fully submersed in the unforgiving crowd of hot, sweaty and hungry individuals.  not seeing any food of interest, we quickly made a detour to haight for some outdoor strolling instead.

before we left, i managed to get 2 taiyaki [one for me, one for d], the very reason i even stepped foot in jtown on such an eventful sunday.

finally.

taiyaki is a traditional japanese sweet dessert with a soft + chewy pancake outer layer baked fresh with the creamiest red bean paste filling center, with just the right hint of sweetness to leave you wanting more. if i could, i would probably eat 10 but because i can't, i won't.
boo.

still hungry but not feeling the food stands, we snuck into one of the various japanese eateries and ordered randomly.

he got:

oyakodon
japanese chicken + egg over rice

i got:

shiro maguro nigiri
hokkigai nigiri
gomae - boiled spinach seasoned with sesame dressing

with full bellies, we were finally off to haight for some light window shopping and people watching.

haight has always been home to some of the best little boutiques in sf.  full of variety and character, this unique block houses some of the most interesting people and stores in all of sf. strolling on this street is bound to guarantee some eye-opening eccentricities and some jaw-dropping price tags. a must for newbies and out-of-towners.

last stop, hayes valley.

hayes valley is the exact opposite of haight. although they are close by geographical regions, hayes represents a domestic community devoid of character and uniqueness.  it is the poster child for sunshine, children and happiness whereas haight would be representative of grunge, punk and griminess of inner-city culture.

although i am a total love junkie of haight st and everything it represents, hayes is also home to my new favorite sweet shop, paulette macarons.

these delightful sweet and light french pastries have captivated my heart, for a mere $1.60

i know, i know. i'm a cheap date.

featuring: the caramel pecan macaron + my favorite, the carribean chocolate

"All hail the almighty foodie orgasm-inducing Caribbean Chocolate French macaroon, exclusive to Paulette's and conducive to a sunny Sunday filled with bright welcoming sunshine, a slight calming breeze and beautiful people loitering all over sunlit Hayes Valley.

My first bite led me to a state of ecstasy.  The crisp outer layer crumbled within contact only to reveal the rich chocolate ganache center which melted exquisitely on my silky tongue, alike lush velvet caresses or cool satin sheets on a balmy summery night.

"hmmm" I hummed seductively in blissful silence, never wanting the peerless taste to part from my mouth.

D: Wow, the look on your face. you'd think you wet your pants or something.

L: Actually, i think i may have."

i know the day may seem as though it's coming to an end, but it was far from over for my protesting belly. it was hungry and it demanded for more.

we randomly came across a new kebab shop, appropriately named: kebabs

he ordered:

chicken gyro

i ordered:

3 falafel balls

the chickpea-filled falafel balls were fried to perfection and when paired with the coolness of the chilled yogurt sauce and the fiery heat of the spicy hot sauce, the combination was pleasingly palatable.

ok, now i'm full. time to retire for the night and head back to his place so i can plop down like the lazy couch potato i truly am.

for the rest of the night, i had:

garden salsa flavored sun chips [betcha can't have just one!]

roasted garlic whole grain triscuits [what? they're healthy...]

ben + jerry's lowfat chocolate fudge brownie ice cream

i know, what a fatass.

alright alright, i'll prove you wrong by doing well this whole week, promise!
